Perius' cats think that lounging around like proper supervillain cats is for chumps.  Belly rubs and chin skrichies are where it's at.  ( This one is named Sebastienne.  I keep track of Perius' cats.  I have a chart. )

Start from the beginning of this arc.
Start from the beginning.

Yeesh. Do the Monteblancs (less the ones on Tethys) do ANYTHING out of the kindness of their hearts? Or is that considered a vice on Veras in general? (Not that I have any idea which of the Seven Cardinal Vices you could hope to map it to. Sloth, if you stretch the definition ridiculously long, maybe...)

{sigh} All this jockeying for prestige position must be ridiculously exhausting and frenetic for the average Veran archon. How much redefining of "happiness" did they have to do to maintain some foothold on sanity? (Even if I get the impression Perius has a pretty fair amount of sociopathy.)

Not a vice, really, just terribly bad for business.  Being nice is nice in theory, but with the prestige system the way it is, being nice and doing favours is stamping 'sucker' on your forehead.

Will the cat chart be in bonus stuff on the CD?

Dammit, that was supposed to be a halo smiley ...

Besides, how else will you get to show off your Monteblanc Mansion maps?

You know Tal's honesty may end up hitting Veran politics like a chainsaw. Oh I just passed along your double bluff triple fake out bribe threat as plain fact sorry that tripped you up.
Packbat Featured By Owner May 2, 2014 might work, at that. I could imagine the scene:

Patriarch: I told you to explain to me why the Monteblanc refused to give your brother the job.
Heir: That's all I know - he barely gave me an hour of his time. The only other thing he said was....
Patriarch: Was?
Heir: He was angry. I ... hesitate to besmirch his name by repeating--
Patriarch: What did he say?
Heir: "Should I require the services of a drunken incompetent, I have no doubt that your brother will remain available. Until then, waste no more of my time." Then he summoned his secretary to escort me out.
Patriarch: Ah, I see.
Heir: do?
Patriarch: Had his intention been simply to discard the longstanding relationship between our families, he would certainly have summoned his secretary first - even a Monteblanc would not be so reckless as to spread rumors himself, but we could hardly blame him for simply losing his temper in front of a loose-tongued employee. Yes ... the message is clear: waste no more of his time, or he will cease to be discreet. Do you understand?
Heir: ...the tariff dispute.
Patriarch: Call Stephen in here. If Monteblanc will put up with no more of our delays on the reduction of trade barriers, we need to complete the preparations immediately. It will cost us some, but not so much as the Monteblancs could if they so chose.
